Construction site on a plot of land – how to organize it well?

After obtaining a building permit, but before starting construction works, a very important stage of the implementation of the entire investment is the proper organization of the construction site on the plot. This is important because by preparing the plot and organizing the construction site on it, you can ensure the safety of the work performed while facilitating the conduct of all works. So what will be important in the organization of the construction site on the plot? It should be remembered, m.in other things, to designate places for storing materials, waste or an access road. But first things first – how to organize a construction site? Below you will find a list of the most important actions you need to keep in mind.

Step 1. Organization of the construction site on the plot

Start! First of all, the construction site must be secured with access to basic utilities, i.e. water and electricity. If we do not have time to wait for connections, it is worth communicating in this regard, e.g. with a neighbor, or use special water tanks or power generators.

What’s more? Like any workplace, the construction site should also be equipped with toilets (usually portable).
It should also be remembered to provide organizational space for the workers, e.g. in the form of a tin garage, which will also serve as a security for construction equipment.

And finally – The construction site must be marked with a special information board about the investment, which should be dealt with by the construction manager .

According to the construction regulations, the construction site must be protected by a fence with a height of min. 1.5 m , whose primary purpose is to protect and warn outsiders about the fact of construction. Regardless of your budget, it is worth making it, for example, from forestry mesh and wooden elements that can be later used or recycled. To strengthen the protection of the construction site, you can invest in monitoring of the entire area.

The access road to the plot must, on the one hand, provide convenient access for construction teams, including heavy machinery, and on the other hand, ensure the safety of, for example, neighbors. The construction site plan should include a place for parking and turning vehicles and unloading space, taking into account, for example, the route of power lines. In the case of difficult access conditions, it is worth considering the use of specialized cranes.

With the support of the site manager and construction teams, it is possible to estimate at what stage of construction, for how long and how many materials will have to be kept on the construction site. It will be necessary to designate a place for storing materials in such a way that it does not interfere with construction work, e.g. steel fixers.

It is important that the construction site assumes the possibility of free work by more than one construction team to ensure efficient service of our investment.

Step 6. How to organize a construction site on a plot of land – a place for waste

From the point of view of environmental protection and the obligation to collect waste, it is very important to designate a place for waste collection, along with easy access to its disposal, preferably in the form of a large construction container. Such a container will be most useful during the construction of the shell of the building.

Step 7. Organization of earthworks

During construction, there is a need to collect and possibly use the soil layer from excavations (the so-called humus) or deeper sands. This will be of great importance, e.g. during the construction of a building with a basement.
