Unusual Houses in the World – 6 Astonishing Examples

The house is a unique place. It is our piece of the world where we should find peace, harmony and happiness. However, everyone has a different vision of what it should look like. Most opt for classic designs, in the modern era simplicity and minimalism dominate. However, there are those for whom clichéd solutions are not attractive enough, so they are looking for something completely different, unusual. We present the extraordinary houses in the world that have surprised, inspired and even caused amazement. Among them are also prefabricated houses.

Bubble House

It is not a new building, but it still arouses great interest. It was an inspiration for many architects, but no one has yet managed to match the masterful work of the Hungarian architect Antti Lovag. The Bubble House is located in close proximity to Cannes, France. On 1200 square meters there are, m.in, 10 bedrooms, a living room, swimming pools, waterfalls and even an amphitheater. Does it look like from a fairy tale, or is it similar to living in it?

American House 08

We return to earth for a moment, because unusual houses in the world are not only fairy-tale constructions, but also architecture closer to our imagination. An example is the American House 08 designed by William Massie. The building was built in just a few days from prefabricated elements, forming a white cuboid with large-format glazing and an impressive roof. The roof “flows” in some places, the recesses that were made in it are not only a decoration of the building – the columns supporting the ceiling are also hidden in them.

Transparent House

We like glazing, especially large ones, which open the interior to the outside world – to the city and nature. But can we imagine such unusual houses in the world that they are made only of transparent elements? Such a project was carried out by architects from Sou Fujimoto Architects. You don’t have to look through the window to see what’s going on inside. Everything can be seen as if on a white page. It is certainly not a home that provides privacy and intimacy.

Ecoms House

We remain on the subject of glass, but in a form closer to us. Ecoms House by Riken Yamamoto is a Japanese interpretation of prefabricated houses. The square villa is built with square panels, and the structure of the building is lightweight and durable aluminum. Among the silvery panels, glass panels stand out. Squares have varying degrees of transparency, but they provide privacy, unlike the Transparent House.

Polish House of Crete

Did you know that Poland has the narrowest house in the world? Unusual houses in the world can also be found in our country. The Kreta House was built in 2012 and is located in Warsaw’s Wola district. The author of the project is architect Jakub Szczęsny. It is hard to imagine that an apartment can fit into a 152-centimetre gap. It is impressive, especially since in its vicinity there is a post-war block of flats and a pre-war tenement house.

House R128

The house was designed by the German architect Werner Sobek, which was built on the… a sloping plot. You enter the house through a footbridge and – interestingly – immediately to the top floor. The building is entirely glazed, unusual houses in the world cannot be built without the use of glass. There are also steel elements, m.in. stairs inside. One more interesting fact – it can be recycled in its entirety. It is therefore an ecological building – there is no shadow of a doubt here.

As you can see, architects all over the world know no limits, and their imagination delights. Buildings around the world are very different. You will find houses from the pack, energy-efficient houses, glass houses, minimalist, futuristic, modernization houses and many, many more.
