Canadian houses – check what you should know about them

Canadian houses are very often found in Canada, as well as in the USA and Scandinavian countries, and in Poland they are only gaining popularity. What expense do you have to take into account when choosing such a solution? What is the price of Canadian houses? Let’s take a closer look at them and try to find the answer to this question.

Canadian (frame) houses – an alternative to brick technology

The popular “Canadians” are houses whose basic structure is a wooden frame. The frame of a Canadian house consists of vertical wooden posts arranged at a distance of 30, 40 or 60 cm from each other. Actually , all elements of a Canadian house are adapted to the modular system. Almost the entire structure and walls of the house are made of wood – all in the Canadian style.

Advantages of Canadian houses

The main advantage of the frame technology is cheap and fast construction. The materials used to make them are cheaper, the amount of these materials is smaller and the working time of the construction team is shorter. Lovers of living in harmony with nature will also be convinced by their ecological and energy-saving nature. They are made mostly of elements of natural origin, and their construction does not require the consumption of a huge amount of energy. We should also pay attention to the fact that the light and simple construction of wooden houses gives much greater possibilities for their expansion or change of internal development compared to brick structures. In addition, Canadian houses have the feature that they can be heated quickly, but unfortunately they cool down just as quickly, which must be remembered when insulating the house.

Canadian houses price

Canadian houses – price

For those considering buying a Canadian home, the key consideration is price. Canadian houses cost less than their traditional, brick counterparts. This makes them a very interesting solution, especially for people with a less affluent wallet. At the outset, it is worth noting that the prices of Canadian houses quoted by manufacturers usually refer to the price per 1 m² of space. The price given for 1 m² of a house is not fixed, but rather falls within a certain range.

The cost of building a prefabricated Canadian house per 1 m² is about PLN 1600-1950 per developer’s condition. What affects the price? Before and during construction, a lot of decisions have to be made. The price of a Canadian house is highly dependent on the architectural design and the number of residential floors. It may be important whether the house is one-storey or with a usable attic, because the attic requires a stronger, more expensive ceiling. The roof is also of great importance – the cost of a gable roof without any swallows will be much lower than the cost of a more complicated structure in the form of a hip roof with several dormers. The price will also be affected by the number of windows and their size, as well as the number of partition walls.

To sum up, the cheapest will be a one-storey Canadian house, covered with a gable roof, with not too many window openings, and rather open spaces inside. It is also worth calculating the cost of the heating system that will be installed. Most often, the cheapest versions are equipped with convector heaters. Of course, the prices of Canadian houses are also influenced by the materials from which they are made, i.e. primarily the type of wood. Here you can meet a very large price range. However, it is not worth saving too much on the building material itself, because it may turn out that after some time of use, the costs of operating and repairing such a house will increase.
